The Teacher In-Service Program (TISP) provides a forum for IEEE volunteers to demonstrate the application of engineering, science and mathematics concepts by sharing their real-world experiences with local pre-university educators.

The call of the workshop Teacher In-Service Program (TISP)

TISP was organized by the IEEE RAS TN members in partnership with the IEEE WIE Affinity Group, on March 20, 2014 from 3pm to 6pm in Sousse – Tunisia.

The program’s goals are to:

• empower section volunteers to collaborate with their local pre-university community;

• promote applied inquiry-based learning;

• enhance the level of technical literacy of pre-university educators;

• encourage pre-university students to pursue technical careers, including engineering;

• increase the general level of technical literacy of pre-university students throughout their educational careers.

Through TISP, IEEE volunteers help support engineering education and the development of future engineering students.

The purpose of this workshop is to help IEEE members and pre-university school educators improve the teaching of engineering and engineering design in pre-university schools (primary schools, middle schools and high schools).

Teaching material is generated from Try Engineering website (www.tryengineering.com), which is a resource for students (ages 8-18), their parents, their teachers and their school counselors about engineering and engineering careers.

The selected lesson plan for this workshop is the Rescue Rover lesson.

The expectation is that IEEE members who complete the workshop will contact local schools in the future, and work with their teachers on engineering lesson plans; and educators will work with their students to present engineering concepts.
